NATIONAL COMING OUT DAY WITH THE PRODUCER OF PIXAR'S “OUT”
This year, Monday, October 11 is 2021 National Coming Out Day. Castro Car Guy and Serramonte Ford are excited to host an episode of the Michelle Meow Show at The Commonwealth Club of California which features a fascinating conversation with the talented writer/director of Pixar’s “Out,” Steven Clay Hunter.
Steven Clay Hunter joined Pixar Animation Studios in 1997 and has worked as an animator on a number of Pixar’s most beloved films, including A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 2 and Finding Nemo. He was an animation supervisor on The Incredibles, WALL•E and Brave. Recently, he helped bring to life the characters Hank from Finding Dory (for which he won the 2013 VES award) and Duke Caboom from Toy Story 4.
Most recently, Hunter made his directorial debut with the SparkShort Out on Disney+, which was shortlisted for an Oscar Nomination this past year. In addition, Out is nominated for a GLADD award. Prior to coming to Pixar, Hunter worked for Walt Disney Animation on many projects, including Fantasia 2000 and Hercules. He first learned computer animation at Industrial Light & Magic on Casper the Friendly Ghost.
“Coming out” is such a pivotal experience in the life of LGBTQIA people everywhere – whether they are young or old at the time. Hunter’s animated story, “Out,” handles the subject beautifully and sensitively. Come meet him in person and hear about Michelle and him discuss the story behind “Out,” Steven’s own journey to becoming an accomplished animator, writer and director for one of the country’s most influential studios, and a frank dialogue about facing the difficulties that may arise in other “coming out” journeys.
Live attendance requires proof of vaccination. Register for this event by CLICKING HERE. [Please note: the registration page may say "online only," but live attendance at the Commonwealth Club will be available!] Looking forward to seeing you there!
